You know, if I didn't know any better, I would've thought the world just wants KFC on Irving Street. Before they closed down, the KFC/Taco Bell outpost out here had been around for decades, filling the air with the smell of freshly fried chicken. Now that they're gone, though, another KFC has emerged, albeit about five years later. And, quite possibly, for the better. Sorry, Colonel - you may have your secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices, but Korean fried chicken is clearly the superior "KFC"! For all of the Asian restaurants that have come and gone along this stretch of Irving, it's surprising how only one or two of them have been Korean. So, needless to say, I was super stoked to see DAK Chicken open up, regardless of the fact they only really specialize in one thing (and that it took me so long to finally make my way here). Stepping inside, there's honestly not much to this place - a handful of tables, minimal decor, and a rather slim menu. Yet, despite how your choices are mostly limited to fried chicken and fried chicken sandwiches, there's still some form of variety to choose from, like the types of pieces and whether you want your chicken plain or dressed with one of their sauces (spicy, soy garlic, etc.) and the sides. Even though their Sweet Garlic Fried Chicken actually sounded the most interesting, we opted to get their ORIGINAL FRIED CHICKEN FAMILY MEAL ($17.99 for 8pcs), which consisted of drumsticks, wings, thighs, and boneless pieces of chicken breasts (essentially tenders) and added a side of their Sweet Garlic Sauce (+$1). As a whole, this was pretty solid. A couple of pieces were noticeably smaller than the others, but all of them were golden brown, crunchy, and battered to just the right thickness. On the inside, the meat was juicy and moist, with the possibly exception of the tenders, which were a bit dry (though, also the last one I tried, so it might have been okay if I had tried it first). As far as service goes, assuming that the worker who took our order is the same one that others have mentioned, I can see why some folks haven't had the greatest experiences here (she initially came off fairly cold). However, after asking her a couple of questions, she actually seemed quite nice! She was happy to let us sit and wait for our order, offered us water, and even threw in a small container of their Yang Nyum (sweet & spicy) sauce that we asked about, in case we wanted to get it for next time! Now, while I've definitely had better Korean fried chicken elsewhere (usually over a pitch of beer), DAK is definitely a nice option to have around. Not only does their chicken taste pretty good, but I loved how quick and convenient they are! At the very least, it's a much shorter drive for me to come here than to drive out to some of my favorite spots or the KFC shops at Kukje or H-Mart. You know...the superior "KFC". THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded up.

It is definitely a hole-in-the-wall and I have always walked by it, wanting to try it out. And last week, I did. It was a friday during lunch and there was only one other party inside. I got the lunch special as a take out. You get four pieces of drumstick or wings or boneless, a side, and a drink/soda. It only comes in the original flavor which I was a bit skeptical. But I shouldn't have been. I was told it would be ready in 15 minutes but I think it was ready earlier. Coke: I saw on the menu it was $3, I think that is way too much but if it comes with your meal, take it. Chicken wings: it was good! I was so surprised. The batter was so great, a little salty, nicely seasoned and the chicken was so juicy. Four pieces sound like a little but it was very filling. Fries: I got fries as a side and it was great! They were no McDonald's fries but they were pretty good!

Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Visited this place twice now - both times to get chicken to-go. They give you big pieces of chicken for a decent price! We've only tried the original flavor and it's so good and juicy. First time, we placed the order in person and it took around 15 minutes. The second time I placed it through their online website - when I came and picked it up, the lady working at the front sounded a little rude and annoyed because she couldn't find my order and looked confused that I placed it online. So I had to wait extra time for my chicken, but it's fine. It still came out hot and fresh.

Good variety of Korean Sauce for your chicken choices. The sandwich delicious. Crispy Chicken on the outside and tender white meat inside. I opted for the Onion rings for my side and I definitely recommend. Price is very reasonable and good for take out. It is a smaller dining area inside so not good for big groups. The service was very good and the woman who took my order was very nice. I will be back. Cheers!
